Nigel Hawke’s Thorne Farm Racing Blog 25 September 2015
Welcome to this weeks racing blog! It’s all systems go now at Thorne Farm Racing!
All the horses are back in training and looking really good. This is the time of the year when every horse looks and works really well, but as we all know that can’t continue all season. The natural progression of training a horse for a season is nearly always beset with problems some small some big, if you can keep it to small problems you’ve done extremely well! The list is endless but as long as you’re not calling the vet every five minutes things aren’t that bad.
We understand that the average race goer can’t comprehend all the things that can go wrong during a season. To get some horses to the races is a feat in itself, never mind winning with them. I would say there’s a high percentage of horses that don’t even get to the the track for one reason or another. A good trainer will give a horse every chance to get to the races, as fit as is possible, so as to give a good account of himself when he runs. Some however are very fragile and need lots of time, others are tougher and thrive with more work. A good trainer will recognise the difference and act accordingly.
Our plans for the weekend are just one runner Master Neo at Market Rasen Saturday. He’s in great form and looks like he’s coming back to his best. The trip is a bit short but he loves Market Rasen having won round there before. Conor O’Farrell will ride Master Neo, he schooled him over fences this morning and he jumped extremely well.
