Nigel Hawke’s Thorne Farm Racing Blog 03 March 2018
Week commencing 19/02/18 we had a great start to the week, on Monday Nigel and Lucie, our travelling head lass, took a long trip up to Carlisle with Take a Break, Lord Ballim and Point N Shoot. Take a Break ran a good race to finish 3rd and only beaten 8 ¾ lengths. After a short break Lord Ballim ran a fantastic race to finish 3rd and was very unlucky to only get beaten not even a length. Point N Shoot stayed on to finish a well ran 5th.
Meanwhile Eddie and Naomi went to Lingfield with Le Musee who also ran a great race to finish 2nd and was beaten by 6th lengths. The ground may have been a bit too soft for him, but he stayed on and gave his all which is what we love to see and can’t ask for anything more in a horse.
On Tuesday Katie, Lucie and Nigel all went to Taunton with Georgina Joy, she ran a blinder, she finished 2nd, she was very unlucky not to have won after leading the whole way around with only 1 ¾ lengths between her and the winner. She is a lovely mare who always tries her best and that showed in her race. Her jumping was brilliant and that is with the help from our great schooling facilities here at Thorne farm Racing which enables us to be able to school horses a couple of times a week on a rotation.
As the week went on the results weren’t quite as good as we would have liked, that was just due to the going of the ground being against the horses that ran so we couldn’t be disappointed with them at all. It is just a part of the racing game, you get highs and lows.
On Sunday Speronimo took to the point to point field and finished a promising 5th, with our yard amateur Kieren Buckley on board. Kieren then went on to ride a winner for another member of our staff Joe Tickle.
Week commencing 26/02/18 was a very quiet week for us due to the weather, it has been extremely cold and we have had some snow although nothing affected us too much at the start of the week. All the horses have got out to work as normal, our carpet fibre gallop is a brilliant help to us as it doesn’t freeze which means the horses do not miss a day’s work. This is vital as they are on a strict exercise plans to make sure they all run to the best of their abilities.
