Nigel Hawke’s Thorne Farm Racing Blog- Friday 15th June 2018

This week got off to a great start with Nigel’s wife Katherine training another winner on the point to point circuit at Bratton Down. Sapphire Noire was given a great ride by our yard amateur Kieren Buckley to win the Open Maiden by a very impressive 9 lengths, this was Kieren’s sixth winner of the season. Sapphire Noire will now run under rules and hopefully keep improving.

The success carried on to Tuesday at Worcester with Deauville Crystal winning the ‘Severn Valley Railway Charitable trust novices chase’. She was partnered by Tom Cannon who gave her an expertly executed ride to win by 1 ½ lengths, that was her second win at Worcester so she obviously loves the course and could go back there again for another novice chase. In the race straight after Scaffold had his first ever run, we were not too sure on what he was going to show at the racecourse as he did not show a lot at home, but it was a lovely surprise to see him finish 2nd, he was given a peach of a ride by Tom Buckley our conditional jockey. Scaffold is a home bred so it would be great if he could win as we have a nice Malinas filly out of the same mare that’s just been broken in.  Nigel says Deauville crystal did it nicely again and scaffold was a little green early on in the race but he stayed on galloping, he has shown us a very promising start to his career’.

KAPGARDE / DOUBLY GUEST– Nice filly by one of our favourite sires, very mature looking for her age with an excellent pedigree, a good walker and a very correct individual. Dam won four and was placed in a grade two rated 137.

ARCADIO/ REGENTS BALLERINA – Strong gelding by a sire that’s getting lots of bumper winners, he’s a half-brother to two winners and from the family of the mighty Regents Pride and has a lot of scope, should be a lovely horse in time.

KAYF TARA/ BRACKETS – Very sharp forward going filly by the very successful Kayf Tara. Closely related to Pure Faith who was listed and grade two placed. She’s very athletic and will come to hand quickly.
