Nigel Hawke’s Thorne Farm Racing Blog- Friday 22nd June 2018

Share

We have been a little quieter on attending the races this week, but it certainly hasn’t been that way at home. With having some lovely sunny days ahead of us our Thorne Farm Organic hay has been cut. We take immense pride in our sustainability of making our own organic hay and using it for our horses which we can start to use over the winter months.

With the 1st July not that far away, the steam cleaning and painting is nearly finished, this is when our first lot of horses will be back in to start back up again ready for their 2018/19 campaigns. Our young store horses from Doncaster are currently being broken in and are coming along nicely, they are all showing lovely attitudes and we cannot wait to see their further progression.

A few of our horses out on their summer holidays

Although we haven’t had the excitement of our horses running this week as we haven’t had any entries, we have all been rather excited watching the brilliant racing at Royal Ascot. It would be such a dream for the team here at Thorne Farm to maybe one day have a runner there as Nigel holds both a flat and jumps license.

Next week we look forward to having a few more runners, including Sapphire Noire who will be making an appearance back under rules after winning a point to point. Calin Du Brizais we be making a reappearance after finishing 2nd last time out and will be partnered again by our yard amateur Kieren Buckley. Georgina Joy will be making her chasing debut and we look forward to seeing what she shows us at the racecourse.

ARCADIO/ REGENTS BALLERINA – Strong gelding by a sire that’s getting lots of bumper winners, he’s a half-brother to two winners and from the family of the mighty Regents Pride and has a lot of scope, should be a lovely horse in time.

KAYF TARA/ BRACKETS – Very sharp forward going filly by the very successful Kayf Tara. Closely related to Pure Faith who was listed and grade two placed. She’s very athletic and will come to hand quickly.
