With 15 horses coming back in to training on Monday the 2ndJuly it has been all systems go to get all the painting and steam cleaning finished. As well as being busy on the yard we had 3 runners at one of our local tracks Newton Abbot. Georgina Joy ran an absolute blinder under Ciaran Gethings finishing 5th in the ‘David Chillery Happy Days Celebrating His Divorce Novices’ Handicap Chase’.
Calin Du Brizais ran in the ‘St Austell Brewery Handicap Hurdle’, he was partnered by our yard amateur Kieren Buckley and the pair where extremely unlucky, when travelling brilliantly up until 3 out Calin Du Brizais unfortunately stumbled on landing and unseated rider. Luckily both horse and jockey where fine and hopefully see them out again soon.
On Wednesday we where at Worcester, Take a Break ran back over fences in the ‘Racehorse Welfare Centre Elegant Olive Handicap Chase’ after having a few runs over hurdles and finished 3rd only beaten 5 lengths. ‘ Nigel says Sean Bowen gave him a masterful ride, hopefully he will have the confidence now to go close next time out’.
Also this week the Boola Bee was sold to stay in the yard after winning a point to point easily on her first run in this country. She was bought at Doncaster by the Buckley Boys and duly did the business, she now runs under rules next Wednesday at Worcester and should be a good fun horse for her new owner.
Next week Nigel is heading off to France for the sales. We have had a lot of success with French horses and he will be on the look out to see if he can find a few more Speredek’s to join our yard. If you have any interest in purchasing a horse please do not hesitate to contact Nigel on 07769 295839.
As well as being busy with the racehorses Katherine’s daughter Ruby has been busy organising a 10-mile ride across Exmoor in Memory of her Grandfather Derek Mead, which took place on the 9th June 2018. It has been a year since Derek Mead was tragically killed in a farming accident and a Health Room has been setup at Sedgemoor Auction Centre in his memory. The Derek Mead Health Room survives purely on donations and Ruby has done a fantastic job of raising £1400. Ruby would like to thank everybody who donated and is extremely grateful for their generosity. If anybody would like to make a donation, please contact Katherine Hawke on 07770 997134.

Kapgarde / Doubly Guest– Nice filly by one of our favourite sires, very mature looking for her age with an excellent pedigree, a good walker and a very correct individual. Dam won four and was placed in a grade two rated 137.
Arcadio/ Regents Ballerina– Strong gelding by a sire that’s getting lots of bumper winners, he’s a half-brother to two winners and from the family of the mighty Regents Pride and has a lot of scope, should be a lovely horse in time.
Kayf Tara/ Brackets – Very sharp forward going filly by the very successful Kayf Tara. Closely related to Pure Faith who was listed and grade two placed. She’s very athletic and will come to hand quickly.
