Summer break is almost over…

1st of July is the date all the horses come back in from their summer break and there are some lovely horses to look forward to, hopefully they will have improved a bit and strengthened up, they certainly look like they have. Then the process of getting them fit from scratch begins. They are all well over their racing weight about forty to sixty kilos which needs to be shifted before they run. The real skill is turning that excess weight into muscle, lots of people think it’s just a matter of working and starving them to get the weight off but that’s when you get injuries so you’ve got to be really careful. You often hear of horses getting injured and having a year off before they run, this is basically why that happens. Pomme is entered for Sunday at Uttoxeter but will probably wait for Market Rasen the following week. On Wednesday Faction is entered for Worcester and is in good form, he’s run well his last two runs and should appreciate the more galloping track. Atlantic King could run at Newton Abbot on Friday, he ran a blinder last time and should like the trip.

Enjoying the summer
