Nigel Hawke’s Thorne Farm Racing Blog 01 September 2017

Nothing much to report this week, I feel we should mention the Davy Russell incident, even though it’s boring everyone  by now. No matter what anyone says if the same thing happened to a claimer or apprentice they would have received a large fine or ban or both and be made an example of. What Davy did, didn’t affect the horse either way but it does look bad and there should be consequences. Racing should be seen in the same light as other equestrian sports and not be tarnished by incidents like this. The horses continue to get fitter and a few have really improved physically, we just need some rain. Patsy Oriel runs tomorrow at Newton abbot in the novice handicap chase, riding Patsy is Sean Bowen. He’s a lovely big horse but he’s also got a bit on the slow side so the trip should be ideal. Nachi Falls is entered for Southwell on Wednesday and will love the ground. On Thursday we have  entered Dharoos at Chelmsford on the flat, he’s been ready to run for a while over hurdles but we need some rain so we’ve decided to give him a run on the flat, he’s a nice sort and should go well.
